BOARD OF DIRECTORS

REGULAR MEETING

March 16, 2023

 

The Clayton Ridge Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting on March 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library, Guttenberg.

 

Call to Order/Roll Call

Vice-President Christine Aulwes called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.  Other members in attendance were Mike Finnegan, Ellen Johnson, Jessica Bittner, Alicia Helle, and Jason Reimer. John Heying arrived at 7:06 and presided over the remainder of the meeting.

 

Also in attendance were Superintendent Shane Wahls, Principal Laura Bilden, Principal Terri Thompson, and board secretary David Schlueter.

 

There were 6 faculty members present.

 

Approval of Agenda

Motion by Finnegan and second by Helle to approve the agenda.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Reports / Communications

Special education teachers Laurie Smith, Laura Morarend, and Lexi Lindsay reported on programs and tools they are using in their classrooms.

 

Wahls reported on the chairlift replacement; possible sites for the therapeutic school; and vacant coaching positions.

 

Bilden reported on mentoring; special ed team meetings; and, professional development plans.

 

Thompson reported on career day; professional development plans; parent teacher conferences; testing plans.

 

Board members discussed the newsletter; bus routes on hard surfaces plans; and the senior trip.

 

Consent Agenda

Motion by Finnegan and second by Aulwes to approve the February 2023 financial statements, the minutes of the February 8, 2023 regular meeting and work session, the minutes of the February 27, 2023 special meeting and work session, the listing of invoices, and payroll requests of $270.92. Motion carried unanimously.

 

 

 

 

 

New Business

  1. Employment

Motion by Reimer and second by Bittner to accept resignation of Softball Assistant Coach Kayla Kelly. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Motion by Finnegan and second by Johnson to hire Rhea Cano as Spanish Teacher. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Legal Counsel

Motion by Helle and second by Finnegan to retain Brett Nitschke as legal counsel with Ahlers, Cooney law firm [same attorney, new firm]. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Set FY24 Budget Public Hearing

Motion by Bittner and second by Johnson to set the Public Hearing for the FY24 Budget for 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 13. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Set FY24 Calendar Public Hearing

Motion by Helle and second by Reimer to set the Public Hearing for the FY24 Calendar for 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 13. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Open Enrollments

Motion by Finnegan and second by Aulwes to deny 12 applications to the Iowa Virtual Academy. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Modify 2022-23 Calendar

Motion by Helle and second by Johnson to change May 24, May 31 and June 1 as full school days and June 2 as professional day. Motion carried unanimously.

 

  1. Senior Trip

Motion by Bittner and second by Aulwes to approve the senior class trip to Florida. Motion carried unanimously.

 

Adjournment

Motion by Helle and second by Bittner to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
