BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING
January 12, 2023
The Clayton Ridge Board of Directors held their monthly meeting on January 12, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Elementary Library, Garnavillo.
Call to Order/Roll Call
President John Heying called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Other members in attendance were Jessica Bittner, Ellen Johnson, Christine Aulwes, Mike Finnegan, and Jason Reimer. Alicia Helle was absent.
Also in attendance were Superintendent Shane Wahls, Principal Terri Thompson, Principal Laura Bilden, Dean of Students Wade Marlow, and Board Secretary David Schlueter. There were 6 staff/guests present.
Approval of Agenda
Motion by Finnegan and second by Aulwes to approve the agenda. Motion carried unanimously.
Reports / Communication
Instructional Coaches Nicole DeGidio, Jana Kregel, Laurie Smith, and Adam Radcliffe presented on Kagan Structures; professional development; student engagement; cooperative learning; and team building.
Wahls reported on quotes being prepared for summer projects; budgeting and planning for an alternative/therapeutic school; change of date for the February board meeting to Wednesday, February 8 at 6:30 PM, with a work session prior to the meeting.
Thompson reported on winter FAST screening; upcoming MS merit trip to Sundown; professional development plans for January 16.
Marlow reported on MS December attendance; crisis training; and state safety inspections.
Bilden reported on professional development; mathematical discourse; World Read Aloud Day
Consent Agenda
Motion by Finnegan and second by Johnson to approve the December 19, 2022 regular meeting minutes; the December financial statements; and, listing of invoices. Motion carried unanimously.
New Business
- Employment
Motion by Bittner and second by Johnson to hire Ellie Kinley as Grade 1 Teacher; to hire Lorna Moser as Bus Driver; to hire Jason Hefel as Jr. High Football Coach; to approve transfer of Amber Koth to Grade 5; to approve transfer of Ashley Hess to MS Science. Motion carried unanimously.
- Allowable Growth for At Risk/Drop Out Prevention
Motion by Finnegan and second by Aulwes to request a modified supplemental amount of $182,210 for at-risk/dropout prevention funding. Motion carried unanimously.
- Open Enrollments
Motion by Johnson and second by Bittner to deny 13 open enrollment applications to the Iowa Virtual Academy.
Motion carried unanimously.
- Early Graduation Request
Motion by Bittner and second by Reimer to approve early graduation request from Hylah Wells. Motion carried unanimously.
- Volunteer Coaches
Motion by Reimer and second by Aulwes to approve Michelle Eilers, Tara Aulwes, and Abrianna Moore as volunteer softball coaches.
- Bus Purchase
Motion by Finnegan and second by Bittner to purchase 3 off lease Blue Bird buses from School Bus Sales at a cost of $12,000 per bus. Motion carried unanimously.
- Resolution – Set Public Hearing
Motion by Johnson and second by Finnegan to adopt a resolution to set a public hearing for February 8, 2023 at 6:30 pm regarding an easement to be granted to Garnavillo Day Care. Motion carried unanimously.
